Weight Management
Even if you are not overweight, you need to understand the keys to weight management. Many of them are the keys to good health as well.
Weight management is a simple mathematical equation:
CALORIES IN – CALORIES OUT =
CALORIES STORED AS FAT
If you eat more calories than your body burns, you gain weight. If you are trying to lose weight, you need to control your intake and increase the amount of calories that your body burns.
Easier said than done for many of us. If you are unsure of your caloric intake, keep a diary for a week. Read labels and write everything down. There are lots of hidden calories, especially in drinks like soda and juices. If you need a diary, come see me for a free one. If you need help with your eating plan, talk to your doctor or a registered dietician. They can help you find a plan that is nutritious and healthy.
Next, look at how you can increase the amount of calories your body burns. Are you lifting HEAVY weights? If not, you are probably not building the muscle mass required to increase your metabolism. Come see me if you are unclear on this concept.
Are you doing cardio several times per week? This helps to burn calories (not to mention what it does for your heart, your lungs, your stress level and a host of other things!) If you aren’t doing cardio, you need to start. Find something that you enjoy that you can commit to and you WILL succeed.
I wish you the BEST OF HEALTH!!
