Enjoy the benefits of exercise and health

So often people are focused on things that really are not all that important when it comes to fitness. As a runner, I have seen too many people worry about their time in races. How fast did you do it? Everyone asks. But there is so much more to being fit than that. Are you able to play with your kids more, can you have exciting adventures with your family and spouse like hikes and bike rides and walks that you couldn’t do before? Does your family vacation seem more effortless?

A good time in a race is a nice thing, sure, but being able to really play with your kids and participate in their life is priceless.

Real Results

Everyone is always looking for a quick fix. The sad reality is that real results in anything come from hard work. I always laugh at those Holiday Inn Express commercials where the guy is hanging with professionals and they are like HUH — life just isn’t that though.

I went to Stone Mountain today with my family and we hiked all around it and over it and I saw lots of people of all ages and abilities doing the hard work. Quit looking for the quick fix and make it a part of your life and the results can do nothing but come.

Fruit — Quit calling it the bad guy!

I am a bit tired of all the low carb enthusiasts trashing fruit. Sorry but a low carb diet is a temporary thing — not a permanent solution.

Reducing your carbs is great — most people eat too much of them but ditch bread, rice, and anything white before you start tossing anything natural.

Fruit is full of vitamins, fiber and phytonutrients. It is also naturally sweet and low in calories. So endulge in some. A cup of raspberries has just 64 calories (with 8 grams of fiber and a ton of cancer fighting ellagic acid)

Trans Fat = Belly Fat

Wanna blast some belly fat — check your trans fat intake.

Now a lot of things with trans fat are allowed to say “Trans Fat free” because they don’t have much but seriously you should not have any.

Look for words like hydrogenated and REDUCE YOUR PROCESSED FOOD. Whole foods like fruit and vegetables are naturally trans fat free!!!!! So why are you bypassing them for crackers and cookies?

Strength Imbalance

Stronger on one leg than the other. Work one arm better than the other. Strength imbalances are common. Easy way to find out…. Hot forward on one leg 5 times landing the last time on both legs. Do on each side and measure the distance. More than a 10% difference in distance indicates a strength imbalance
