Breakfast –make it or break it

A cinnamon scone from a coffee place can have 480 calories. And will it keep you full for at least 1/3 of your day?? Because for most women, that is 1/3 of your entire day. Fir most men, 1/4. You could have had 3 scrambled egg whites, two turkey sausages, 2 pieces of toast and an orange.

Sometimes it is just taking the time to think it out before you reach for that quick easy item.

Mix Em Up Abs

I see a lot of people working their abs in all kinds of ways. -some good, some crazy and some dangerous.

If you are not sure what the best moves are – trust me they are not what you learned in 7th grade and they don’t take a lot of time – but booking a personal training session or two can get you the right advice to keep it safe.

And mix up WHEN you do your ab workout. Studies have shown that people who always do them at the end of their workout shortchange themselves on the quality of their moves.

Exercise Progression

Strength training is not about doing some difficult, maybe dangerous for you move and aching for days. It is about challenging yourself but in a controlled manner and then progressing when that becomes easy.

You don’t start in college, you start in pre-school. And the gym is the same. Start where you are, wherever that is and you will be in the right place with an easy path to progress.

Here is a video of me doing the cable row showing how the exercise can progress as you become more stable.

Another Good Reason to Skip Fast Food

So I was out getting coffee yesterday and there is a fast food restaurant right next door and I see a dead rat up against their building. GROSS but then I see a giant grease mark (a sign of rodent activity) along their roof line meaning the dead guy probably isn’t the only one around.

So if the trans fat, the poor fitting clothes and the early death — not to mention a zillion health problems — isn’t quite getting you to stop eating it – maybe that will.

No time for Exercise??

I know I know we are all busy.

But…. when you fail to make time to exercise you are telling yourself that you are not as important as _________.

Do you watch the news every night? Could have watched it on the treadmill. You know you are more important than the news.

Do you watch a TV show regularly like reality TV or a series. Why not DVR them or get them on Itunes and watch them whenever you want while you work out.

Seriously you are more important than ANYTHING ON TV.

Do you like to go out for girls night? Why not meet the girls for a hike or walk at the park. There is no rule that says you can’t stop for a coffee after or even bring one with you.

Do you love date night with your spouse? Don’t we all. Love yourself and your spouse just a little bit more and pack a picnic or lunch and go for a great walk outdoors. Or meet at the gym after work and have a great workout and conversation while you burn some calories.

Do your children consume a lot of your time? Of course they do. They do that for all of us. And we should enjoy that time we spend with them. Teach them healthy exercise habits now. I read an amazing article about a spouse of a soldier killed in Iraq who recently ran a marathon — can you imagine?? She detailed how her kids biked and skated while she ran. It was sad but inspiring.

Get what I am saying??? There is no room in your life for “I have no time”
