Quitting Smoking

Quitting smoking helps improve your health in ONE DAY.

YES ONE DAY.

Within 12 hours the carbon monoxide levels start to go down.

Lung function starts to improve in 2 weeks.

It takes most people seven to nine times before they successfully quit so seek professional help and support.

ING Half Marathon

So I am running the ING 1/2 Marathon on Sunday so wish me luck and I would like to wish all those who are running a good race with no rain.

Whether you are a runner or not, sometimes a challenge or a goal such as a race can really help to motivate.

Even More about Portion Control

Portion control is a key way to reduce the amount of calories that you consume. Try using a smaller plate. Never order a large unless you are sharing. A study at Penn State found that women who ate an 8-inch sub sandwich felt just as full as women who ate a 12-inch sub sandwich. Yet, the women who ate the larger sandwich ate an average of 74 more calories. Doesn’t sound like too much, but 74 extra calories per day is 8 pounds per year!

What are your priorities??

Is weight loss a priority? Like all priorities – that means you must put it ahead of some things — or it is simply NOT a priority.

Do you put it ahead of having 3 drinks on the weekend when you are social with your friends and having one or zero is probably just as fun.

Do you put it ahead of grabbing a quick bag of chips when you are feeling munchie.

Do you put it ahead of watching TV when you can watch TV from the treadmill, bike or elliptical or you could record your show and watch it without commercials later….

Do you put it ahead of having a whole piece of birthday cake every time someone at work has a birthday. I mean I completely understand wanting to have a treat on YOUR birthday but does the birthday of a co-worker warrant you not meeting your goals??

So seriously consider your priorities and think about your choices and your needs and desires ;)

Good Core and Good Bones

A study done at Osaka City University in Japan found that women with the weakest core muscles had 10 times the risk of rapid bone loss – one of the primary causes of osteoporosis – than those with strong cores. Strengthen your core now to maintain bone density.
