All About Gluten Part Two

So we are back on the All About Gluten project so on to one of the most asked questions.

Should I go Gluten Free?

If you have been diagnosed with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity you must go gluten free. It is dangerous for you to eat gluten and you could do permanent damage to your digestive system.

If you have not been diagnosed, you should talk to your doctor. Your digestive problems may not have anything to do with gluten — or they may be caused by it — but the same symptoms such as bloating and digestive problems can be caused by Crohns disease and even some cancers such as Ovarian or Colon Cancer. So it is best to talk to your doctor if you have symptoms.

Going gluten free for anyone without symptoms is tough. You will have to scrutinize everything you put in your mouth — not just your bread. Gluten is in pasta, soups, seasonings, salad dressings and tons of products you would not expect. And going gluten free does not necessarily mean healthy. You could be pulling very healthy products from your diet or you could be adding products like gluten free brownies.

If you do choose to go gluten free whether by necessity or by choice, know this — the most healthy and successful people who drop gluten and are not vitamin deficient do so using WHOLE FOODS. They do not use the ultra processed packaged foods screaming gluten free from the shelf but instead focus on fruits, vegetables, lean protein and gluten free grains such as quinoa.
