Personal Training with Dave Hansey -- Douglasville's NASM Certified Personal Trainer Personal Training Douglasville - Personal Trainer Dave Hansey

I FINISHED the Atlanta Marathon!!!

26.2 miles DONE!!

I ran the Atlanta Marathon yesterday. What an awesome thing to do on Thanksgiving day.

It is a fast course (I shaved a whole 35 minutes off my ING Georgia Marathon time. Certainly not a good race for the 1st time marathoner (the Atlanta Marathon lacks the crowd and support that a first-timer needs) but it was an awesome race!

Interested in training for a race? Awesome. I will now be tweaking my workout to do the ING Georgia Marathon in March. I hope you will be training to run it with me.

A special shout out and thanks to my personal training client and friend, Jeff. Our Saturday morning trail runs really helped me get ready for this race and preserved my knees from the pounding. Thanks for joining me on them!!

Douglasville Personal Training Pro Dave Hansey VS. the Atlanta Marathon

A warm hello to all of my Douglasville personal training clients as well as to all my friends, family and readers of my blog.

I will be running the Atlanta Marathon on Thanksgiving Day. — a grueling 26.2 miles!! I have my fingers crossed for good temperate weather. My training program has helped me. I have followed exactly what I know I need to do to have a successful race as well as an easy post-race recovery. This will be my 5th marathon and at 37 years old, I am excited to be out there still racing and completing marathons.

I wish all of my clients, friends, readers and everyone who reads this THE VERY BEST for a safe, happy, healthy Thanksgiving and I will see you all after the holiday weekend.

And a special note to my clients — remember to enjoy yourselves and yes, you can have some pie, but 3 forkfuls of pie tastes just as good as the whole thing so keep it realistic! You will feel better next week when you get back to it!!

Best wishes — Dave

Healthy Eating is the base of a healthy lifestyle

A lot of people ask me about why they are not losing weight and why they are not having the look they want (whether it be a 6 pack, well defined abs or that tight, firm appearance on any body part from your arms to your legs and everything in between)

Changing how your body looks requires THREE THINGS:
- strength training with heavy weights
- regular cardio training
- healthy eating

If you skip on the eating part and the strength training part, you will get mediocre results. And that right there is what many people do. While I applaud you for showing up to your fitness class or hopping on the elliptical a few times a week, I ask you to answer ONE QUESTION about your body….. are you happy with your body?

By that I mean HAPPY, like it performs the way you want, you have enough energy, you are the size and shape you want, and you are proud when you look in the mirror.

So if you are not happy, then let’s look at where you are going wrong. As far as healthy eating, that is pretty easy. Print 2 copies of the food diary on this site under LINKS. Write down everything that goes in your mouth for the next weeks. That includes all food, all drink, gum, candy, beer, EVERYTHING!! This will give you an idea on your caloric intake and where you make adjustments. Like maybe you change your lunch from a Chik-fil-A sandwich with fries and a coke to a grilled chicken sandwich with a salad and a water. See, POOF — tons of fat, sugar and calories gone with still lots of taste.

Now as far as your gym time, write down how long you come to the gym and how much of that is workout time. BE HONEST. If you come to the gym 5 hours a week, there is NO REASON you are not SUPER FIT. Because with 4 sessions of 45 minutes of cardio, you still have 2 hours left for strength training which is more than enough. So make the MOST of your time in the gym.

Countdown to the Atlanta Marathon — Douglasville’s Personal Trainer, Dave Hansey, is training hard!!

I am running the Atlanta Marathon in 17 days *gasp*

I have been following my training plan for the last few months religiously and yes, there have been days where I did not want to go out and run or hit the treadmill, but I feel so good now and I know when I am out on that course that I will be so glad that I did.

Since this was not my first marathon, I know what I need to do to make my body respond in a particular way. A lot of people when training for a marathon or any event overtrain because they have not had the experience so usually they are way beyond ready. And it is a good thing to have the confidence when you hit the marathon course.

I am very excited!!

And while I am on about being excited — congrats to my great client Taylor for his win at the State Championships — I will have more details on him as they become available — look for details!!!
