As a personal trainer, I get asked about snacking all the time and it is pretty easy, the more whole food the better so here is a good one to start with ….. Super Snack – Need a crunchy yummy snack? Try edamame. These whole soybeans have only 90 calories in a half cup and since you have to shell them, they slow you down and satisfy.
No samples please! And don’t drink all your calories!
Can’t find your hidden calories? They are everywhere. That meatball sample at the supermarket (almost 100 calories), 10 french fries (40 calories), a handful of gummy bears from the office candy jar (80 calories), just a taste of birthday cake (50 calories) that sweet tea you are drinking (a TINY glass has over 100 calories) get the idea!! Keep your food diary, record everything and find all the hidden calories.
Here is a great recipe using the Visalus Protein
Strawberry Banana Visalus Smoothie
- 3 cups unsweetened Almond Milk (Silk is 35 calories per cup)
- 1 cup frozen strawberries
- 4 scoops Visalus
(or two serving packages – 90 calories per serving)
(you can use less or more to adjust calories and protein up or down )
- 1 small banana
- ice (4-6 cubes depending on how frosty you like your smoothie)
Puree in blender or smoothie maker and serve immediately — Makes 2 servings
193 calories, 15g protein – per serving
Sometimes it is hard to understand on your own what your strengths and weaknesses are when it comes to strength training. Do you ever see someone running in your neighborhood and just know that it is not the exercise for them. Or do you see someone who just gets better and better every time you see them go by. I have seen both.
I see people wearing braces and really trying with little success and more and more injuries. Sometimes it is not a simple fix. Sometimes they are just not ever going to be successful at a particular sport because of a pre-existing injury or limitation.
But more often than not, what is causing them problems is often easily corrected with a personalized strength and/or stretching program. Some people literally just need a couple of stretches to stop their problem.
But here is the complicated part. Everyone is different. So without an assessment, it is impossible for any personal trainer to just “give you some moves”. Be honest, what are you struggling with? And if money is tight, be honest about that too. Getting you on a program that works with all the things that make you unique is really the ultimate goal.
